When I Paint My Masterpiece

Wed May 20, 2009, 1:13 PM
I listened to a woman comparing artists to religious fanatics at a lecture yesterday. In a sense, religious or not, it seems humans are prone to seek meaning even in the vast spheres of the illogical. But pure logic isn't enough. Art and science, like binary stars, need each other to survive.
I've been digging for meaning in the thousands of photographs I have in this computer, plastered over walls, lining cabinets and drawers. The truth is that I probably have too much faith in the importance of what I do.
"Why did you do this and why should we care?"
Is the search for the sublime enough of an answer?

Obscurity aside, here is a far delayed update for the one person that might occasionally glance at this. I've started Evergreen State. I've moved to Olympia; I'm living with a wonderful man, paying rent, and stealing his second computer. I feel happy and confused in all of this happiness. I work at an Asian restaurant and am trying to save every penny for the possibility of a study abroad in Central Asia this coming July. I also have a new camera.

Hi Vera. Thanks for the watch. My opinion from MM re: your work is only reinforced by what I see here. I can learn from you. Welcome to Oly as well.

This famous linguist once said that of all the phrases in the English language, of all the endless combinations of words in all of history, that Cellar Door is the most beautiful.
